about me
hi,
my name is tobias lindorfer. i’ve just finished my art history studies in vienna, and i currently work in building archaeology. i am fascinated by the urban landscape, and one of my passions is wandering through cities, discovering places and buildings, and taking pictures. back at home, i meticulously assemble these elements into posters.
one emphasis of my work is fin-de-siècle vienna. for my master’s thesis—a quantitative study on the design of viennese apartment buildings from 1895–1910—i took more than 30,000 pictures of buildings in my hometown. naturally, the heritage of this era in other places around the world has also been a major interest on numerous journeys. however, i am equally interested in medieval, early modern, and post-war architecture and urbanism. i love visiting mass housing estates from the 60s to the 80s and still can’t understand people who find brutalism ugly.
building upon these images, collected during research and on many journeys, spacetimearchitecture is a project at the intersection of science and art. through it, i want to showcase the fascinating heritage of architectural cultures around the world. but it’s not only about the famous buildings and tourist attractions: spacetimearchitecture focuses on “everyday architecture”—the magnificent design features and artworks found in apartment buildings, schools, or village churches—but also highlights the downsides of speculation, densification, and urban decay visible in many cities.
these posters are a declaration of love, and sometimes also a critique, of the incredibly diverse architectural cultures around the world. they are intended to bring joy and sharpen the viewer’s eye.
